Why wear a safety helmet?
Wearing safety helmets is almost common practice on construction sites.
However, this is often not the case in engineering workshops.
This may be due to the risk of falling items being considered relatively lower in engineering workshops compared to construction sites, given that the equipment used in such workshops is usually lighter in weight, and the height from which it can fall is usually lower.
BKL recently conducted experiments to explore this.
Typical items from engineering workshops were dropped from 5 meters and lower onto melons equipped with safety helmets, in order to observe the effect of a safety helmet.
Although a melon is not representative of a human head or limb, the amount of damage to the melon can provide insight into the potential extent of injury caused by a falling item.
